Marketing Brandeis on a roll

As it seems, there is an exclusive Bob Dylan USB containing the full Mono Box Recordings, The Bootleg Series Vol.9: The Witmark Demos and the ‘Brandeis University 1963 Live’ album. You can “win it in a Bob Dylan contest”. “All” you have to do is change your profile picture (on facebook I assume where I saw the add) into a favorite Dylan picture. As I said earlier the Sony marketing is on a roll.

Several artists by the way tried USB recordings as a new product innovation (e.g. Starr’s “Liverpool 8” was sold as a USB wristband in 2008), but it was not a success.

Are we going to fall for the Brandeis marketing trick?

I see on all kinds of sites (see e.g. http://www.bobdylanisis.com/contents/en-uk/d2.html) warnings like: “This item, which includes the Brandeis cd, is very limited and you are advised to order early to avoid disappointment.” Combined with the news on DylanExaminer: “Bob Dylan’s ‘Original Mono Recordings’ on vinyl delayed until December”. My goodness: we are being tricked into buying eight mono Bob Dylans albums on CD that we (at least I and probably you as well) have already on vinyl, CD and some of them remastered CD? And all this to hear seven songs (one incomplete) we have already (in different versions from different concerts) on several bootlegs? Are we that stupid? Probably we are.
