Stereo? Mono? Listen in 3D60
Isn’t it strange that we are listening to Dylan in mono? Of course the sound is gorgeous. But what went wrong with the stereo mix? Why was stereo the last “invention” in sound production? Yes, we had quadraphonic, but it died a premature death. Although Dylan in quad is  treat. But finally, there is a new innovation: 3D60. It is a new sound production process created to deliver an immersive,...

The story behind the Highway 61 sleeve
I always wondered who is the guy behind Dylan on the sleeve of Highway 61. Why is he carrying a camera? And where is the picture taken?  You too? Record Collector (november issue) has the answers in a feature article ‘the making of Highway 61 revisited’. Daniel Kramer took the picture, surprisingly two months before the recording of the album. Kramer and Dylan spent a whole day in New...

Down out the groove
After a reaction of goodnitesteve, I promised to relisten to down in the groove and to post a blog about it. Goodnitesteve wrote: “While Down In the Groove doesn’t hold the water of Oh Mercy, it does set a trend that was done better in Good As I Been To You, World Gone Wrong and the Never Ending Tour. Down In the Groove consists of a majority of covers. Now they are a tad overproduced...

A 50,000 dollar iPod
It can be yours. An iPod issued in 2007 as a promo item for the Dylan 3CD’s collection of songs and the Mark Ronson remix of Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine). The front of the iPod is engraved with lyrics from Like A Rolling Stone, while the rear has the Dylan album logo and the Limited Edition number out of 200. For a mere $ 50,000. It’s for sale on ebay. The seller says “it...

writebeforebreakfast asked: I agree with all that has been said. The four "S" albums are great and so is Infidels. Empire Burleque he started to lose me (though it does have Dark Eyes, Tight Connection (done better on outtakes and then supper club), and it even has I'll Remember You (which worked better in Masked and Anyon.). Knocked Out Loaded has Brownsville Girl and not much more.

I do...

Serve yourself
A lot of buzz around the fact that John Lennon would have turned 70 yesterday (october 9). Interviews, blogs, reissues of all Lennon’s post Beatles recordings. A lot of the stuff redundant. I always liked Lennon, because I thought he was the most creative of all Beatles. That changed when Lennon’s Anthology was issued in 1998. Nothing wrong with the box, mind you (Anthology is of greater value...

flecton asked: i'd have to say it's worth re-visiting. when you get past the 80s production it is my firm belief that there are great songs under the sheen. i agree with knocked out loaded but i do have a soft spot for "brownsville girl". i saw a snippet of a video for that song but have never been able to find the entire video. i think it's a great story song and a good sunday morning...

Marketing Brandeis on a roll
As it seems, there is an exclusive Bob Dylan USB containing the full Mono Box Recordings, The Bootleg Series Vol.9: The Witmark Demos and the ‘Brandeis University 1963 Live’ album. You can “win it in a Bob Dylan contest”. “All” you have to do is change your profile picture (on facebook I assume where I saw the add) into a favorite Dylan picture. As I said earlier the Sony marketing is...
